First, You can never master stamping at the very first attempt, it takes a bit of time to master. You don't just open the package and become an expert. You'll need a clear block which are available in many sizes, but you'll want to choose one that matches the size of your stamp.  You'll also need ink, and again there are many types of inks available, but you'll notice that people talk mostly about pigment ink, dye ink and chalk ink when discussing planner stamping. Pigment ink is a bit slower drying and sits on top of the paper. Dye ink soaks right into the paper and dyes the paper - it dries quickly. Chalk ink is a type of pigment ink that has a slightly different texture and dries pretty quickly.

In some way, you'll want to clean left over ink off of your stamp.  There are a few different ways, but three common ones are as follows:
1.    Alcohol free baby wipes. Just be careful while using these that you do not wipe too vigorously and tear the stamps.

2.    Bowl of warm water with a drop of dish soap and another bowl of warm water. Swish/rub the stamps in the bowl with soap, then rinse in the clean bowl and let the stamps air dry.  This trick also helps when the stamps lose their "stickiness" to the block.

3.   You can simply stamp the excess ink off onto scratch paper until you no longer see any remaining ink.

While stamping there are a few key things to remember. Always remember remove the stamp from the backing and stick it to your clear block.  Add enough ink to cover the stamp, but do not add too much ink this causes your impression to come out less than clear and crisp. Press the stamp down straight onto the paper. Remember to apply firm and even pressure over the stamp and do not press
too hard always be gentle as pressing too hard can cause the impression to come out less than crisp.  Once you have your stamped image on your paper, give the ink a bit of time to dry if using a pigment or chalk ink, otherwise you may smear the ink.

Stamping can be the most cost effective way to creativity. The one and only major one is the stamps and once you purchase the stamps, there is very little cost in the future, as the stamps can be used over and over again as long as you can maintain them. You can use any color ink to change the color palette of your layout based on theme or even your mood.
